F.A.Q.

General Information

Why should I add a Kauai Kimono to my rotation?

We manufacture our own kimonos in a workshop we created from the ground up. The result feels different than any Gi you have ever worn. Handmade in Bali with Aloha — nothing like it. Perfect for travelers and commuters, as well as hot weather/summer climates. Thousands of satisfied customers worldwide.

Are Kauai Kimonos strong enough to hold up to jiu-jitsu?

Yes. Mat tested and proven since 2008. Our ripstop material won’t rip, and if it does.. it stops.

The material is so light, will it rip?

Many have asked, none have ripped. Our unique ripstop fabric is incredibly strong and made from wizard’s sleeve. Even in the toughest training regimen with normal wear and tear, your Kauai Kimono should outlast a traditional Gi by several years.

Are Kauai Kimonos competition legal?

Kauai Kimono jackets are not IBJJF legal! For other organizations, please check with tournament organizers beforehand. Smile plenty, throw one shaka, and be polite. No issues usually, just get our there and roll. Good luck.

Yes – NAGA, Grapplers Quest, DREAM Jiu-Jitsu, FIVE Grappling, and many others.
No – IBJJF does not allow the use of our ripstop jacket (but our ripstop pants are fine).

When will the next batch be released?

Sabar! Santi aja.. and thank you for your patience while we create the magic. The small nature of our production sometimes leads to longer wait times for our batches while we procure raw materials and work around the busy Balinese holiday schedule. Please follow us on social media ( instagram, facebook, twitter) for all the latest news.

Do you have a physical store or location where I can purchase a gi?

Unfortunately we do not have a physical storefront location at this time. Our true small batch manufacturing does not allow us to keep inventory for long, and all orders are handled via our website online at http://kauaikimonos.com

I have a trip coming up to Bali/Hawaii...can I order a Gi now and pick it up when I arrive there?

As we have no physical storefront location this is not possible. It is preferable to arrange shipment before your trip rather than coordinate a pickup on your arrival.

How do I care for my Gi?

Cold wash. Hang Dry. Brush Yo Teeth.

Sizing Questions

Do the Gi's shrink?

Kauai Kimonos don’t shrink! Our Gi’s not meant to shrink to fit. We suggest going with your natural size. If you are in-between sizes, check the Hapa “L” and Bombucha “X” sizes for long/lanky and short/stalky jiu-jitsu athletes.View our size charts for more information.

What size Kauai Kimono should I get?

Kauai Kimonos are pre-shrunk and feature natural tapered lines, so go with your natural size, not a size up. View our size charts for more information.

What are the X and L sizing about?

Our Hapa “L” and Bombucha “X” sizes – best suited for long/lanky and short/stalky jiu jitsu athletes. The “X” range is for short/stalky body types. The “L” range is for long/lanky body types. These sizes are primarily based on width, not height. We recommend to match your width to the Gi size first, then add “X” for shorter length in the sleeves and pants, or “L” to increase the sleeve and pant lengths.

What is the difference between A1X, A2X, A3X?

Essentially these sizes are for stalky guys – A3 guys with A2 height, and A2 guys with A1 height.
The width will be the size you read, but the height will be similar to the next size down.

If you fit an A3 jacket, but a little on the short side, go with A3X.
If you fit an A2 jacket, but a little on the short side, go with A2X.
If you fit an A1 jacket, but a little on the short side, go with A1X.

When/how will my order ship?

We ship orders within 1-2 business days after receiving your order using USPS Priority Mail.

Where do you ship?

Pretty much everywhere in the world. Any questions please contact us.

Why does my tracking number not have any information for my package yet?

USA Customers: Either your package is in transit or it hasn’t been scanned by the next receiving post office in the chain. Do. Not. Panic. Please double check the tracking number we sent you and try again – and/or – please allow an additional day (or two) for everything to register in the online postal system.

International customers: Please note tracking is rarely updated once packages leave the US due to the fact that international post services simply do not take the extra time to update/scan all tracking numbers for incoming mail. This is not a limitation of our services, but a reality of how the world works. Door to door tracking for international shipments is only available with private courier (i.e. FedEx, DHL) by specific request.

What happens if I did not receive my package?

Please contact us and we will investigate your case accordingly.

How do I cancel my existing order?

You must cancel your order before it has been shipped. If you feel you have reached this message in error, please contact us immediately and reference your order number.
